Nagamaki Grind
A downloadable game
Nagamaki Grind is a 2D hack and slash platformer with skate mechanics. You play as radical ronin samurai Timoshi (Tim to his friends), who has mastered their blade. Perfecting the art of bladeboarding: using their long-handled nagamaki as both deadly weapon and as a skateboard with which to skate the rooftops of Edo Japan.
Rendered lovingly in the gorgeous Ukiyo-e woodblock print art style, grind on shrine rooftops, ollie between the pagodas and kickflip off the heads of the shogun's men to blade down the enemies who oppose you.
Nagamaki Grind emphasises responsive arcade skate movement in a 2D environment and blends that with action gameplay. Flow like water and keep your combo and multipliers going - build your score or speed through, seeking a fast time.

Pretty interesting concept! The art style and environment designs are pretty nice! The level design reminded me a lot of a Sonic game with it’s branching level design. Music was pretty poppin too! As for the main mechanics, it feels a bit too floaty, I think with a bit more refinement and weight to the character, this could end up feeling really great to play! Though from what I played, it was still fun regardless! (Please note that I played the first available build of this game on itch.io, this mini-review post and video may be out of date. :P)
